Finds do well at Noonans sale

Noonans held a auction of Coins and Historical Medals on 4/5 April 2023. The sale included The Hazelbury Civil War Hoard of gold coins, which was found by one of our readers, which we wrote about in a piece called Reader sells hoard of Civil War gold. Here we have our pick of the other detecting finds included in the auction.

Stater of the Dobunni

BODVOC on the obverse and three tailed horse on reverse. Found in 2022 near Box in Wiltshire and recorded at the PAS as WILT-80E516 where it was a Find of Note of County Importance. It featured in our PAS Finds, when it was recorded.

Anglo-Saxon Thrysma ‘Runic Ring-Bearer’ type

Thrymsa, or gold shilling, dating to c. 650-70. Found near East Bergholt, Suffolk in 1998 and recorded at the EMC as 2023.0098.

Light coinage, Canterbury mint, moneyer Eoba. Found in North Hertfordshire in August 2015 and recorded at the PAS as  BH-D1F744.

Third coinage. Found on 14 October 2017 near Anstey, Hertfordshire and recorded at the PAS as BH-CC73FC. Bent when found and has been professionally straightened.
