Medieval ring declared treasure
At an inquest at Hereford Town Hall on Monday 7 June, this medieval ring was declared treasure. The ring had been found by detectorist Peter McCoy on June 28, 2020. He had been detecting on a permission he had on a farm in Herefordshire.
The ring is recorded at PAS as GLO-1CA5DC and is believed to date to the 13th-14th century. It has a rectangular bezel with an oval aperture, in which is set a purple stone. Two other rings have been recorded by the PAS with a similar stone setting – SUR-D0CDD0 and WMID-2D67CB. However, this find has settings for two additional stones at the shoulders of the D-shaped ring. One is empty but the other still retains a green stone.
