Long cross penny of Henry III
Anthony Hopkinson knew that this coin was a voided long cross penny of Henry III but asked if I could identify the moneyer and the mint.
The coin is an example of class 3b. If the full legend on the reverse was visible then it would read IERE MIE ONE VER (with ligation in places), so Ieremie is the moneyer and York the mint. The full name of this moneyer was Jeremy Louth of Bondgate in York.
The legend on Anthony’s find is weak in places but the coin is otherwise in about VF condition and quite attractive. And, Henry III pennies of York are much scarcer than those of Canterbury and London.
