Irish penny of Edward I
This is the first of two hammered silver coins that came in from Robert Knight with a request for valuations.
The coin is an Irish penny of Edward I, which has three pellets on the king’s breast but only two show up clearly. I’s an example of class Ib and was struck at the Waterford mint.
At the time this penny was produced Irish coins were struck in sterling silver at the same weight as their English counterparts. Therefore, besides being used in Ireland, they circulated widely in England.  Â
Valuation
The obverse would grade near VF but the reverse isn’t quite as good. In its present condition my price range would be £80-100.
