Henry VII halfgroat of York
This very recent find came in from Mike Ruczynski to be identified and valued. Mike said it was discovered on a field that is littered with flint and some pieces are very large.
Mike’s find is a Henry VII halfgroat of York. On both sides the mint mark is a martlet and on the reverse there are keys below the shield. Halfgroats of this type were struck for the profit of Christopher Bainbridge when he was Archbishop of York late in the reign of Henry VII. In the Standard Catalogue this type is listed as number 2262.
Valuation
The obverse is better than Fine and well centred but there are scratches within the inner circle. The reverse is a bit weak in the centre but otherwise good Fine. In its present condition my price range on this coin would be £50-60.
