Half sovereign of William IV

This 19th century gold coin was unearthed by Steve Smith, who wanted to know if it would be sought after or if it is a common find.

Very few gold coins can be said to be common. This specimen is a half sovereign of William IV and is dated 1835 on the reverse. I’ve been involved with detecting finds for close to 30 years and this is the first gold coin of its type I have seen.

On both sides are a few scratches but the coin would grade Fine in terms of circulation wear. It’s a rare coin and a very nice detecting find.
