Groat of Philip and Mary
Colin Smith is the finder of this hammered silver coin. A valuation was requested by Colin in order to gain some idea of what the landowner’s share should be.
The coin is a groat of Philip and Mary with mint mark fleur de lis on both sides. This isn’t a rare coin but neither is it as common as the groats of Mary alone.
Valuation
On the obverse there is a flat area in front of Mary’s face but this side is otherwise in good Fine condition. The reverse would also grade good Fine. The coin is quite well ruck on a round flan and is well above average for a detecting find.
In its present state of preservation it shouldn’t be worth any less than £250 to a keen collector.
