Groat of Elizabeth I

A detectorist signing himself as Fred sent in this coin. He thought it was a groat of Elizabeth I but wasn’t sure so he asked for a full ID and a valuation on his find.

The coin is a groat of Elizabeth I, with mint mark cross crosslet on both sides. It went into circulation during the second issue, which dates from 1560-61. No more hammered coinage groats would be struck until the reign of Charles I.

Valuation

The obverse would grade Fine but the reverse is a bit off centre and double struck, which detracts from its appearance. As it stands, my price range would be £45 to £50.
