Gold stater of the Dobunni

Mike Taylor sent in the images of this rather nice Ancient British gold stater, which is a coin of the Dobunni.

On the obverse is a perfectly centred depiction of a tree with a pellet at the base. On the reverse is a triple-tailed horse facing right, with ANTED above, a wheel below and a ring and pellet below the tail.

In Ancient British Coins this stater is listed as the Anted Rig type as number 2006. In the Standard Catalogue it is number 379.

Valuation

The obverse would grade EF. On the reverse the head of the horse is off the flan but this side is otherwise in good VF condition. The coin is attractive and has good eye appeal so a pre-sale auction estimate would be likely to be £2,500.
