Gold Sovereign of Victoria
Alan Reynolds said this gold sovereign of Victoria was found on a local farm. I was sked to identify the mint and Alan wanted to know if it would be worth any more than its gold value.
The coin is dated 1888 and has a letter S on the ground beneath the depiction of St. George and the dragon on the reverse. Therefore, this sovereign was struck at the mint situated in Sydney, Australia.  Â
Valuation
The wear to both sides suggests it has seen some circulation and as it stands I’d grade it no higher than Fine. In its present condition it would be unlikely to sell for any more than its bullion value, which at the moment is around £380.
