Farthing of Edward II

Aiden McHale described this find as an Edward farthing asked me to provide an ID on it. Firstly, it measures 12mm in diameter so it is definitely a hammered silver farthing.

On the obverse the legend reads +EDWARDVS REX AN and on the reverse it reads CIVI TAS LON DON. The general style indicates that it is a London coin of Edward II. In the Standard Catalogue farthings like this one are listed as number 1474.

The reverse has been struck off centre but Aiden’s coin is otherwise in about VF condition and is a decent example of the reign, type and denomination.
