Elizabeth I sixpence

The Elizabeth I sixpence pictured here came in from Alun Rees, who asked for a valuation on his find. Alun described the coin as being in good condition.

This sixpence is dated 1573 above the shield on the reverse and has mint mark acorn on both sides. The date isn’t particularly scarce but the coin is in well above average condition for a sixpence of Elizabeth I.

Valuation

The surface is a bit rough on both sides but the obverse would grade about VF and the bust of Queen Elizabeth stands out very well. The reverse isn’t as good, as it has been struck off centre and the shield is weak in one quarter. It has a few minus points but Alun’s find is still nice enough for it to be worth around £100 to a collector.
