Double crown of James I
The finder of this hammered gold coin wished to remain anonymous but wanted to know what it might be worth.
The coin is a double crown of James I. It was struck during the second coinage, it has the third bust on the obverse and mint mark rose on both sides. In the Standard Catalogue it is listed as number 2621.
Valuation
The flan looks to be slightly uneven but the coin is well struck and would grade VF. If I was cataloguing it for sale at auction then I would set the pre-sale estimate at £2,200-2,500.
