Canterbury halfgroat of Henry VII
Steve Bartlett said this coin was found in Cumbria. A valuation was needed, in order to pass on a figure to a landowner.
Steve’s find is a Canterbury halfgroat of Henry VII. Any profit made from the manufacture of this type of halfgroat was shared between King Henry and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Halfgroats like this one turn up quite regularly as detecting finds. The obverse of this example would grade Fine and the reverse is better but the coin is short of flan. It could have been clipped but it might be full weight and struck on a flan too small for the dies.
Valuation
In its present condition my price range would be £30-40.
