Anglo-Saxon period silver sceatta
Paul Tongue said this coin was unearthed during a group dig held in South Lincolnshire on 7 July. I was asked to provide a rough valuation.
Paul’s find is an Anglo-Saxon period silver sceatta, which is an example of Continental series E. On the obverse is a degraded head and on the reverse a square standard, within which is an annulet and groups of pellets. There are many varieties of series C.
Valuation
The reverse of this sceatta has been struck off centre but it is otherwise in VF condition so an auction estimate should be £80-100.
