Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy mount
This find was unearthed recently by Steven Simmons. It’s an Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy mount, with a hole at each corner for attachment.
The mount is square and only small, as it measures 20mm by 20mm. The face has deep decoration and has a gold covering, much of which has survived. It will be circa 8th century in date.
Valuation
This find is small but in very good condition. I’d give it a pre-sale auction estimate of £70 – £100 but on a good day the hammer price might go over the higher estimate.
