Threepence piece of Elizabeth I
This is another hammered silver coin that came in from Steve Bartlett. He said it was discovered on an old permission he had revisited and he needed a valuation for a farmer.
Steve’s find is a threepence piece of Elizabeth I. It is dated 1575 on the reverse and the mint mark on both sides is an eglantine (a flower). There is extra metal outside the outer circle on both sides, which proves that this coin has never received the attention of a coin clipper.
Valuation
On the obverse the queen’s crown is weak and on the reverse the shield of arms has some weakness but the coin is otherwise in VF condition. In its present state of preservation my price range would be £100-120.
