Sixpence of Elizabeth I

This hammered silver coin came in from Tony Hollis, who asked for a full ID and a valuation.

The coin is a sixpence of Elizabeth I, with mint mark coronet on both sides and with the date, 1569, over the shield on the reverse.  Over the years I’ve seen thousands of Elizabeth I sixpences and can say that the least scarce dates in the whole series are 1567, 1568 and 1569.

Valuation

The obverse on Tony’ find would grade Fine but the reverse isn’t quite as good. In its present condition it would be worth up to £40 to a collector of English hammered silver coins.
