Sixpence of Charles I
This hammered silver coin was unearthed by Steve Bartlett on the 8th of February. I was asked to provide a full ID and a valuation in order to pass on a figure to the landowner.
Steve’s find is a Tower Mint sixpence of Charles I. On the obverse is the fourth bust of the king and on the reverse is an oval shield with C to the left and R to the right. The mint mark isn’t altogether clear but it will be a portcullis. This sixpence belongs to group D and is an example of type 3.
Valuation
The coin is weak in places but is otherwise in Fine condition and to a collector it should be worth close to £45.
