Siliqua of Honorius

This is another coin from the small group found in Northamptonshire by Robin Dones. It’s a Roman silver siliqua of Honorius, whose dates are AD 393 to 422.

As is the case with many late Roman silver coins, it has been clipped. However, enough of the legends can be seen for a full ID. On the obverse is a diademed bust of the emperor and a legend that reads HONORIVS P F AVG. On the reverse the seated figure of Roma holds in one hand a spear and in the other the figure of Victory set upon a globe. The legend on the reverse reads VIRTVS ROMANORVM but the mint letters, which would be beneath Roma, have been lost due to the clipping.

Valuation

This siliqua would grade about VF but the clipping will have a significant impact on its possible commercial value. In its present condition my highest price range would be £25-30.
