Series R1 Sceatta
Pictured here is the second Anglo-Saxon sceatta that came in from Kevin Wakeford to be fully identified.
On the obverse is a head facing right, which has lines and pellets for the neck and drapery. Behind the head is TAT and in front is EPA in runes.
On the reverse is a beaded standard, within which is a central annulet with T T above and I I below. Below the standard is a cross pattee and at each of the three other sides is TAT.
The preceding information adds up to this sceatta being an example of series R1, which is one of the types listed as number 813 in the Standard Catalogue.
The reverse is off centre but this sceatta is otherwise a decent example of the type and would grade about VF.
