Gold signet ring of Thomas Curwen

This revolving bezel finger ring was found by a detectorist in Thornton, Buckinghamshire in October 2017 at a rally entitled “Weekend Wanderers Bucks Oct 2017 American Tour 2“. It is recorded at the PAS as BUC-D65E68. Revolving bezel finger rings date from 1600s.

On one side of the bezel is the family crest of the Curwen family of Workington Hall, Cumberland. The crescent in the arms indicates that this is the second son and the date of the ring suggests that it belonged to Thomas Curwen (1590 – 1653), the second son of Sir Henry Curwen MP.
