London halfgroat of Edward III
This is another hammered silver coin, which was unearthed by Steve Bartlett on the same permission as the previous find.
The coin is a London halfgroat of Edward III. On the obverse the mint mark is a cross. On the reverse the mark is a bit blurred but looks like a crown. Therefore, the coin is a mule with an obverse of the fourth coinage, series E, combined with a reverse of series F.
Valuation
This halfgroat would grade good Fine but there is some edge loss between 5 and 7 o’clock on the obverse. It’s a rare mule but with the defective edge my price range would be no higher than £50-70.
