John, penny
This hammered silver coin was sent in by Roger Paul. However, it was unearthed during a club outing by a colleague named Jim, who wondered what his find might be worth.
The coin is a voided short cross penny of John, which is an example of class Vc. On the reverse the legend reads +ARNAVD ON CA, so the moneyer is Arnaud and the mint is Canterbury.
Valuation
The flan is slightly irregular but Jim’s coin is otherwise about VF for the issue. In its present condition I’d estimate its value at £80 – £100.
