Irish farthing of Edward I

We have already had two Irish hammered silver coins and now we have another, which was found this week by Chris Mcloughlin. This one is a farthing of Edward I.

I’ve seen a few Edward I farthings as detecting finds but they are still quite rare. The most recent example was struck at Dublin and is an example of class I.  On the obverse the legend reads ERA NG LIE around a triangle in which is the head of King Edward.

Valuation

In Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands farthing of this type are listed as number 6255. Chris’s coin has a very slight edge chip on the CIVI quarter of the reverse but is otherwise in Fine condition, so I would price it at £70 – £90.
