Halfgroat of Elizabeth I

Steve Bartlett said this hammered silver coin was found on a new site in Cumbria. I was asked to let Steve have a valuation, which he would pass on to the landowner.

The coin is a halfgroat of Elizabeth I with mint mark hand on both sides, which dates the coin to1590-92. It went into circulation during the sixth issue, which commenced in 1582 and ended in 1600.

Valuation

The obverse on Steve’s find would grade only Fair but the reverse is better. In its present condition my price range would be £12-15.
