Groat of Henry VI
This is the second groat of Henry VI on this week’s Friday update. This was unearthed very recently by Oliver Jackson.
Part of the obverse legend is flat but it clearly has rosettes as punctuation marks. On the reverse the inner legend reads VIL LA CALI SIE, with a mascle before LA and a rosette after SIE. Therefore, this coin was struck a Calais during the rosette mascle coinage.
Valuation
Apart from some flatness in the legend on both sides this groat is otherwise in VF condition. It’s an attractive coin, on which my price range would be £120 – £150.
