Groat of Henry VI
Robin Dones is the finder of this hammered silver groat, which was struck at London during the first reign of Henry VI.
On the obverse and reverse rosettes and mascles are used as punctuation marks, so this groat is a product of the rosette mascle coinage, which dates from 1430 to 1431. On the reverse the letter S in TAS has been struck over another letter and this would add interest to specialist collectors.
Valuation
The coin would grade about VF, so my price range would be £120 – £140.
