Gold stater of the Corieltauvi
Glyn Peak said he unearthed this coin last weekend. He must have been chuffed when it surfaced, for it is an Ancient British gold stater.
It’s a coin of the Corieltauvi, with a deeply cut wreath pattern on the obverse. On the reverse is a horse facing left with a star below. The horse’s body is more realistic than usual for the type.
In Ancient British Coins Glyn’s find is listed as the South Ferriby type on page 92. It is said to be very common, which in some areas it might be but in the places I detect it is non-existent.  Â
Valuation
There is a striking crack in the edge but the coin is otherwise in near VF condition, so my price range would be £350 to £400.
