Elizabeth I sixpence
This is number ten from the batch of eleven finds submitted by Jamie New. It’s an Elizabeth I hammered coinage sixpence.
The coin is dated 1570 on the reverse and the mint mark on both sides is a coronet. Sixpences of this date had two different mint marks: coronet and castle, with the former being slightly scarcer than the latter.
Valuation
This find is a little weak in places but still good enough to grade Fine. As such it is in above average condition as a detecting find. Elizabeth I sixpences have gone up in price over recent months, so my price range on this specimen would be £50 – £60.
