Edward III London groat
This is the first of two hammered silver coins that came in this week from Tom Hollis. I was asked to provide a full ID and let Tom have some idea of their possible value.
Coin number one is an Edward III London groat, of which there are many varieties. The detail is difficult to see in places but the initial cross looks most like ‘cross 2 broken’ so the coin will belong to pre-treaty period, fourth coinage, series D.
Valuation
The reverse would grade Fine but the obverse only Fair to Fine. It’s not a rare coin so my price range in its present condition would be no higher than £30-40.
