Class 5b penny of King John
This voided short cross penny is a find recently unearthed by Glyn Peak. I was asked to give Glyn a valuation.
This penny if a class 5b coin of King John. On the reverse the legend isn’t altogether clear but if all the letters could be seen then it would read +RENAVD ON EV. Therefore, the moneyer is Renaud and the mint York. The mint isn’t particularly rare but neither is it anywhere near as common as London and Canterbury.
Valuation
There is a weak section in the obverse legend and in a corresponding area on the reverse but the coin is otherwise in nearly VF condition. It’s a decent looking coin with some eye appeal and my price range would be £100 to £120.
