Class 5b penny of John

Ian Sharman knew this was an English voided short cross penny struck at the mint situated at Winchester bur he had difficulty identifying the moneyer. Therefore, he asked if I could help him out.

This penny is a class 5b coin of John. On the reverse what can be seen of the legend reads DREV ON WINC. If all the letters in the moneyer’s name were visible then it would read ANDREV, so that is his full name.

Ian’s find has a flat area on both side but the rest of the coin is in better than Fine condition. Winchester isn’t a rare mint but it is far less common than London and Canterbury.
