Treasure finds set new record
On 2 November 2023, DCMS released some statistics on the reported treasure finds for 2021 with provisional figures for 2022.
As the graph shows, with a total of 1,378, there were a record number of Treasure cases recorded in 2022. The vast majority of these (96% in 2021) are discovered by detectorists.
There is the potential for the figure to rise further in 2023 with the expansion of the definition of Treasure to include objects of historical importance more than 200 years old.
