Shilling of Elizabeth I
Illustrated here is Roger Paul’s second find to turn up on the 24th of September. Its overall state of preservation isn’t as good as the first coin but it’s much larger.
The coin is a shilling of Elizabeth I and the mint mark on both sides is a figure 2. Most mint marks of Elizabeth I cover more than a single year but 0, 1 and 2 date from 1600, 1601 and 1602 respectively.
Valuation
The obverse of this shilling would grade only Fair but the reverse is better and is about Fine. In its present condition a likely pre-sale auction estimate would be £40-50.
