Groat of Edward III

Steve Simmons asked for a full ID and a valuation on the coin pictured here. Steve said it was unearthed a couple of weeks back on long pasture in Wiltshire.

The coin is a groat of Edward III, which was struck at London during class B2 of the treaty period. On the obverse there is an annulet before EDWARD and the other stops are double annulets. On the reverse all the stops are double saltires.

Valuation

On both sides of Steve’s find there are a few scuffs and nicks. However, this is still an attractive groat, which would grade near VF and would be a welcome addition to any collection of hammered silver coins. In terms of value, even with the slight scuffs and nicks it shouldn’t be worth any less than £200.

Thank you for identifying the class, I really struggled to find the information required.
