Penny of Elizabeth I
Duncan Wappett described this coin as a silver penny of Mary. Had the ID been correct then it would have been extremely rare but, sadly, Duncan’s ID was wrong.
On the obverse the legend start with E D G and this translates as Elizabeth Dei Gratia so it is a penny of Elizabeth I. On both sides the mint mark is a crescent, which dates that coin to 1587-89.
Valuation
I’d grade this penny of Elizabeth I as Fair to Fine and price it at £15-20.
