Penny of Henry III
The detectorist who sent in this hammered silver coin signed himself as David. He thought it could be a coin of Henry III but after failing to pin it down he asked for my help.
The coin is a class 3b voided long cross penny of Henry III. Parts of the legend on the reverse do not show up but if everything was clear it would read ROG ERO NNE WEC. Therefore, the moneyer is Roger and the mint Newcastle.
Valuation
The coin is partly in VF condition but with flat areas and there is a crack in the flan. On the plus side the coin was struck at one of the scarcer mints but a significant minus point is its defective state of preservation. As it stands, my price range would be £30-40.
