The finder of this coin wished to remain anonymous. The coin is a Henry III voided long cross penny, examples of which turn up quite regularly as detecting finds but many are defective in some way.
This penny is an example of class 5g, which is number 1373 in the Standard Catalogue. On the reverse the legend appears to read REI IVD ONL VND, so Renaud is the moneyer and London the mint. Â Â Â
Valuation
Strictly speaking, the coin would grade VF but it could be described as good VF for the issue. In its present condition it shouldn’t be worth any less than £60 to a collector.
