Description

This matrix dates from 13th-14th Century and shows  a church or castle with three towers and three stars. The legend reads S’ GIFROT DANEL D’ ZOMERZETE “Seal of Gifford (or Giffard) Daniel of Somerset“. The use of Z is is an early example of the voicing of the “S” in the regional accent, according to Malcolm Jones. Designated a Find of Note: Regional Importance.
