Alfred the Great penny “Cross and Lozenge” type

A “West Mercian” style penny with the reverse legend MON/ETA/LVL/LA giving the moneyer as Lulla. The PAS record says “This is the first ‘Cross-and-Lozenge’ penny found in Gloucestershire … it has been argued that they may have been struck in western or southern Mercia, perhaps at Oxford“. A Find of Note of Regional Importance.
